Oktoberfest Singers
The La Crosse Oktoberfest Singers were formed in 1990 under the direction of Bert Gasch. The 20-member chorus was directed by Tom Padesky. Four instrumentalists playing a button accordion, banjo, bass horn and drums accompanied the singers. The fun-loving group of men, from all walks of life, created a festive atmosphere wherever they performed. Their repertoire consisted of old and new German songs performed in both German and English. One of their favorite appearances was welcoming crowds each year to Heritage Night at the La Crosse Center. They sang at several different events during Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest Singers were also invited to perform at many events throughout the region. Among them: concerts for La Crosse Riverfest, Sparta Butterfest, West Salem Dairy Days, Hillsboro Cesky Den, Young America, Park Falls Flambeaurama, Minnesota Polkafest and the Chippewa Falls Oktoberfest were included. In addition they performed for many local conventions, area festivals, private An Oktoberfest Singers Song Book is available for purchase through this site. Read an excerpt from the book.
